Yankton Federal Prison Camp warden has been on the job since May

YANKTON, S.D. (AP) The new warden at the Yankton Federal Prison Camp says he's glad to be in Yankton.

It's the first warden job for Archie Longley, who has been with the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 21 years. He's been in Yankton for about three months.

Longley has risen through the ranks at prisons in California, North Carolina and Florida.

As of July, the prison had about 800 inmates and Longley says there might be as many as 900 in the coming years.

The Yankton prison is marking its 20th year this summer and many of the employees who started work in 1988 are starting to retire. Longley says it's his job to try to rebuild and retool "and keep the prison going for another 20 years," (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
