LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska prison officials say two inmates can't be married because it would endanger the public.
In April, the ACLU sued Nebraska prison officials on behalf of 2 inmates, Becky Rivero and Terry Lewis. Last week, corrections department director Robert Houston and John Dahm, who runs the women's prison in York, responded in court filings. They say decisions not to transport inmates between prisons is based on safety and security concerns of the correctional system and the public. Lewis is at the state penitentiary in Lincoln and is the former president of the York Chamber of Commerce. In 2005 the couple were sentenced to up to 20 years for dealing methamphetamine out of the funeral home Lewis operated. Add as favourites (182) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 765
