Ricks Receives 5 to 20 Years in Prison Print E-mail
A Rexburg man accused of molesting children for 30 years received 5 to 20 years in prison Monday morning.

58-year old Tim Ricks was charged with one count of Lewd Conduct with a Minor under the Age of 16, although he admitted to more instances of abuse over time.

Judge Brent Moss also retained jurisdiction on the case, which means Ricks will be back in court in six months, and his sentence will be reevaluated.

Prosecutor Sid Brown pointed out this isn't just one instance of abuse. It's a pattern over time.

With both recommendations made by the defense and prosecution, Judge Moss started to hand down his decision by saying, "Every member of your family that's here, and even those that aren't here, are going to be sentenced today by what I do."

But then, the Judge asked Ricks a question, "Mister Ricks, if you were the Judge and somebody did this to someone you loved, what would you recommend?"

Ricks, who had already declined the chance to speak, stood up.

"I need to pay for my crimes, but I don't need to overpay. I know in my heart this will never happen again, I'm extremely sorry."

Ricks left the courtroom in handcuffs; he'll serve at least six months in prison.
