HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec 17, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Pennsylvania State Corrections Officers Association (PSCOA) President Don McNany today issued the following statement after Centre County Judge Bradley Lunsford sentenced a state prison inmate at SCI-Rockview to as much as an additional half-century behind bars after brutally assaulting a corrections officer and breaking his jaw with a broomstick. Lunsford ordered that the 25- to 50-year sentence run consecutively after a 15- to 30-year sentence the inmate is already serving.
"We applaud Judge Lunsford for sending a clear message to state prison inmates that corrections officers will be protected by the law," McNany said. "Our officers show courage every day in working among our state's most violent criminals. It's good to know that Judge Lunsford has our back. We hope his colleagues in the state judicial system will follow his lead." About the PSCOA PSCOA proudly represents more than 10,600 men and women who patrol cellblocks and serve in our 26 state correctional institutions and forensic units.
