JACKSON, Miss. -- A man who pleaded guilty to stabbing his estranged wife more than 30 times and attempting to set her on fire has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Henry Watson pleaded guilty to aggravated assault earlier this month. He was sentenced on Monday in Hinds County Circuit Court. On March 4, 2007, the 43-year-old man attacked his wife, Gracie Watson, outside a department store. Police say he stabbed her 32 times and doused her with gasoline in an attempt to burn her while she was on the ground. But police say a passer-by pulled a gun and halted the attack. Gracie Watson survived the attack and addressed the court after the guilty plea was entered. Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith said Watson will have to serve 85 percent of the sentence before he is eligible for parole.
